The Diversity Center's Statement on the Rise in Hate Crimes Against Asian Americans

We are absolutely heartbroken over the lives lost in Atlanta and the surge of attacks against the Asian community in recent weeks.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdowns last year, there has been an obscene increase of anti-Asian racism with thousands of Asian Americans suffering racist attacks everyday.

According to a study by Stop AAPI Hate, there have been 3,795 racially motivated attacks against Asian Americans from March 2020 to February 2021. This report only shows us a fraction of the hate crimes that have actually occurred due to many incidents not being reported.

We know that these events are rooted in a long history of systemic racism against Asian people in the U.S. We must join together to #StopAsianHate and raise awareness of these act of violence.

The Diversity Center condemns any and ALL forms of racism or violence.
