Santa Cruz City Arts and The Diversity Center unveil the latest public art collaboration in Santa Cruz at Louden Nelson Community Center. Two years ago the idea of a collaboration was born, and now we celebrate completion of this new mural, developed in conversation with teens in our youth program! Program Coordinators Alex Santana Jr. and Jamie Joy, as well as local artists Manny Garcia and Oliver Whitcroft helped make the mural a reality.

'The mural, titled “Unify, Decolonize, Thrive” represents the past, present and future of marginalized groups – transitioning from a bleak history to a hopeful and vibrant future where everyone is included and valued. A bridge with the word “intersectionality” sits at the crux of the mural and invites people to think about how the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender and overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage.'  More.
