Counseling and Therapy Services (CATS)

CATS is a program of Community Human Services in collaboration with John XXIII AIDS Ministry and Monterey County AIDS Project. Provides receive free, confidential counseling (English or Spanish) to improve your mental or emotional health. Our LGBT-affirmative staff, including an LGBT-identified psychotherapist, provide a safe and supportive space in which LGBT and/or HIV+ individuals and their families can receive counseling. Potential counseling issues include gender identity and intersexuality. Services are available in Salinas and Seaside by appointment.

Meets the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays at 7:30 PM at the Diversity Center. All gender-different persons are invited to attend. Although our group is primarily a peer support group for those who are trans-questioning or in transition (MTF & FTM), all are invited to come and share personal experiences in a safe, caring, and moderated environment. Trans Men Peer Group

Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:30PM. Meetings are open to FTMs, partners, friends and family members. The group is free and meets at The Diversity Center. This group is open to anyone who was labeled female at birth and no longer feels that is complete or accurate. Group members may identify as or be exploring identities including: FTM, transman, guy, man, male, transgender, transsexual, gender queer, intersexed, gender-questioning, cross-dresser, male-to-male, transbutch, boi, drag king, bigender, genderless, trannyfag, etc.

Transexual Support Group

This group offers a safe and supportive place for individuals with gender identity issues. It is open to both MtFs and FtMs who have already transitioned or are looking to do so. This is by reservation only. Sorry no drop-ins. Group meetings are held every 2nd Saturday of each month from 10am-12pm and are $25 per session. Group is facilitated by Stephen L. Braveman, LMFT, DST and Melissa Fritchle, M.A., M.F.T. Intern, AASECT Sex Therapist Intern.

Monterey Transsexual Post Transition Group

An Every Other Month Support Group for Both MtF and FtM Transsexuals

We are beginning a new Post-Transition group to address the unique needs of both MtFs and FtMs who have completed their transition. This group is meant to compliment, not replace, the monthly Monterey Transsexual Support Group. The new Monterey Post-Transition Support Group is meeting quarterly (to begin with - will increase the meetings as interest prevails), starting in March 2009. This group meets in the afternoon, following the Monterey TS Support Group, which meets in the morning from 10 AM to noon. An intake is required for those who have never attended one of our previous groups. All past or current members need only to RSVP, please, to let us know you will be attending.
