Herbalism and Self-Care for Transgender/LGBTQ+ Folks

Herbal Trans Health Workshop 11-1 & 2-4pm Sunday May 27th, Subrosa Community Space


Part 1: Herbal Self-Care for Long-Term Trans Health
Using plants, nutrition and magic to support wellbeing and thriving for trans and non binary people. We'll learn about using herbs in combination with hormone therapy and gender-affirming practices, as well as what to avoid. We'll explore the esoteric uses of herbs for boundaries, protection, and comfort.
 

Part 2: Herbs for Hard Times
Emotional self-care for queer and trans people. We'll explore the use of herbs, supplements and mindfulness practices in times of worry, sadness and chronic stress, and touch on herbal support for trauma healing, grief and loss. We'll put together self-care plans to remind ourselves what works for us when things get tough.

Support groups for and by trans* folks, referrals to trans* friendly providers, lively conversations about the specific ways being trans* impacts us, fun outings -- these are just some of the ways we serve you.
 

Santa Cruz Trans* Masculine group meets every 2nd and 4th Sunday from 6:00PM-7:30PM at the Diversity Center. This group offers peer support and social connections. All FTM, Transmen, masculine-spectrum, butch, boi, folks questioning their gender, etc are welcome.

• Celebrate this exciting stage of life and all the benefits that come with it
• Discuss risk factors and behaviors you should avoid to stay healthy
• Examine how alcohol, prescription medications and over-the-counter medications affect seniors differently and how you can avoid problems
• Learn how to use simple tools to help you feel more empowered about your health and the healthcare you receive

We follow Javi, his new moms, and one furry feline through first night jitters, trips to the park, new friends, and mealtime conflicts as they build the trust, reassurance, and love needed to turn their house into a home.

GenderQueer Peer Support Group

The support and discussion group is for people (of any age) who identify on the spectrum of GenderQueer/Non-Binary/Agender/GenderFluid/PolyGender, etc. The group also welcomes those who want to explore their identity, but who may not need or want to classify themselves. All individuals are encouraged to explore their individual selves, without concern or pressure that the next step need be ‘transitioning,’ and without concern about fitting into other people's definitions. Make up your own! The Diversity Center's GenderQueer Peer Support Group provides a supportive and interactive experience at the center. The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month.

20th Annual Rainbow Ceremony: Queer & Trans Graduation

The UC Santa Cruz Rainbow Ceremony is a celebration to acknowledge the achievements of LGBTQIA+ graduating students. The ceremony validates their hard work and commitment to academia and visibility as proud queer and trans graduates. Rainbow Ceremony is open for all UC Santa Cruz graduating students who identify as LGBTQIA+ and allies. For many graduating students Rainbow Ceremony is the one graduation they can be their authentic selves and celebrate with their friends and chosen family.

• Learn about the aging process and how to make healthy lifestyle choices
• Celebrate this exciting stage of life and all the benefits that come with it
• Discuss risk factors and behaviors you should avoid to stay healthy
• Examine how alcohol, prescription medications and over-the-counter medications affect seniors differently and how you can avoid problems
• Learn how to use simple tools to help you feel more empowered about your health and the healthcare you receive

Our meetups run from 1-3:00 pm ,with a youth leadership meeting from 3 - 3:30 pm. If you are interested in planning events for the Youth Program or would like to be a part of the process, join the team!

Gender Expansive Youth Group

Youth ages 12-18 from across the gender spectrum (including those questioning their own gender identity) are invited to share a supportive, community space with other gender expansive youth. Activities, dialogues, and events will be facilitated by the Diversity Center Youth Program's new Gender Expansive Facilitator: Jack Mayer. We hope to see you there!

The Diversity Center's Trans A.A. group serves to provide a self-supporting environment for trans folks and allies who are seeking assistance with their substance use. The primary purpose of A.A. is to carry its message of recovery, treatment, and sobriety. Together, in a completely confidential setting at the Diversity Center, we can assist you in accomplishing your goal of living a life without alcohol.
